About Kona Karate

Most Dojos Rent A Mat.
We Inherited One.

Kona Karate is a family-owned school in Centerville, Utah. Te's father, Victor, built it on a real Kenpo lineage. Te grew up on this floor and runs it today — father to son, teaching Davis County families for decades.

01 / Where it started — Te's father

Victor Built It.
Te Runs It Today.

Victor started training over 50 years ago and has taught thousands of Davis County residents since. He earned his first-degree Kenpo black belt from Ed Parker himself — the father of American Kenpo — competed in Judo at the 1975 Jr. Olympics, and boxed Golden Gloves. Without him, Kona wouldn't exist.

That matters more than it sounds. Ed Parker is the father of American Kenpo. Many schools teach a curriculum they licensed. Ours was handed down from father to son and refined on this floor over decades. Victor laid the foundation; his son Te, our head instructor, carries it forward.

Te Lawrence has been on the mat since he was four years old and teaching since he was sixteen. He grew up inside this dojo — his father Victor built it — and now runs it with the same standard he was raised on: high-energy classes, real life-skills coaching, and belts that have to be earned.

Victor's son, and the owner — on the mat every day. When you book an intro, you meet him, not a sales desk.

"Strength. Focus. Confidence."

The Training Floor

Not A Strip-Mall Studio. A Real Dojo.

Wall-to-wall mats, room for a full tournament, and a space built for martial arts from the floor up. Walk in once and you'll see why families drive across Davis County to train here.

Families Who
Stayed.

"We are beyond impressed with Kona Karate and so happy to have found it! It came recommended to us, after trying a couple other places for our son in the area. Instructors Te and Jade are personable, kind, and made our timid 5 year old feel right at home on day one! Our boy is so excited to go to each class and comes home beaming and so proud!"

"Kona Karate has been excellent for my kiddo. It has brought him out of his shell and given him a lot more confidence. They teach more than the karate form — they teach good behavior, self awareness, confidence, and more."

Jacob Scott
