01 / Why Centerville families choose Kona

More Than Kicks.
Life Skills.

Parents don't bring their kids here just for martial arts. They come because they want a child who listens the first time, stands up for themselves, and walks into any room with confidence. That's what years of teaching in Centerville have built — and what we deliver every class.

The Training Floor

Not A Strip-Mall Studio. A Real Dojo.

Wall-to-wall mats, room for a full tournament, and a space built for martial arts from the floor up. Walk in once and you'll see why families drive across Davis County to train here.

03 / What sets us apart

Anyone Can Rent A Mat.
Nobody Can Rent This.

Centerville has no shortage of places to kick a pad. Here's what you can't get anywhere else in Davis County.

A Lineage, Not A Licence

Our founding instructor earned his first Kenpo black belt from Ed Parker himself — the father of American Kenpo. That's the martial art your child learns here. It wasn't bought from a franchise catalogue.

Three Generations On One Mat

Victor opened the doors. His son Te grew up on this floor and runs it today. Family-owned and operated — the owner teaches your child, he doesn't just sign the lease.

Students Who Never Leave

Our reviews are full of families at 10 and 15 years — kids who started at four and came back to teach. Retention is the only honest scorecard a dojo has.

Belts You Can't Buy

Kona has its own graded curriculum with its own black belt ranks. Promotions are tested and earned — no pay-to-advance, no participation stripes.

Te
Lawrence.

3rd Degree Black Belt, Kona Karate · 1st Degree Black Belt, Kenpo

Te Lawrence has been on the mat since he was four years old and teaching since he was sixteen. He grew up inside this dojo — his father Victor built it — and now runs it with the same standard he was raised on: high-energy classes, real life-skills coaching, and belts that have to be earned.

The lineage behind the school

Victor started training over 50 years ago and has taught thousands of Davis County residents since. He earned his first-degree Kenpo black belt from Ed Parker himself — the father of American Kenpo — competed in Judo at the 1975 Jr. Olympics, and boxed Golden Gloves. Without him, Kona wouldn't exist.

Why Families
Love Us.

"We are beyond impressed with Kona Karate and so happy to have found it! It came recommended to us, after trying a couple other places for our son in the area. Instructors Te and Jade are personable, kind, and made our timid 5 year old feel right at home on day one! Our boy is so excited to go to each class and comes home beaming and so proud!"

Rachel Wade

"Kona Karate has been excellent for my kiddo. It has brought him out of his shell and given him a lot more confidence. They teach more than the karate form — they teach good behavior, self awareness, confidence, and more."

Jacob Scott

Centerville

"I have been with Kona Karate for over 15 years! They have some of the best staff and are willing to work with every kid and their specific needs. Classes are high energy and way fun for the kids."
